Aegis Sciences promotes 4 to vice president

Aegis Sciences Corporation, a provider of forensic toxicology and health care sciences laboratories, has promoted four leaders to vice president:

  • Cheryl Hild has been named vice president of quality
  • Keri Thoma has been named vice president of finance
  • Nicole Piersiak has been named vice president of marketing
  • Steve Pickens has been named vice president of sales

Hild, previously director of quality at Aegis, will monitor and oversee all functions of the quality management system to ensure that all laboratory processes meet and exceed compliance regulations and policies. Hild also serves as an adjunct faculty member for the University of Tennessee’s Center for Executive Education. She earned her Ph.D. in management science and statistics from the University of Tennessee.

Previously director of marketing, Piersiak will lead all marketing efforts for Aegis, including business development, public relations, corporate events and project management. Before joining Aegis, she worked as a sales representative for the cardiovascular team at Merck & Co. Piersiak earned her B.S. in exercise and sports sciences at the University of Florida and her master’s of management in health care at Vanderbilt University.

Thoma, who is a CPA and was previously Aegis’ controller, joined the company in 2009 after serving as manager of the European Treasury Center for John Deere, Inc. in Luxembourg. As vice president of finance, Thoma will direct all financial activities at Aegis. She earned her B.B.A. in accounting from the University of Iowa and her M.A. in business administration and finance from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.

As vice president of sales, Pickens will manage the Aegis sales team while developing sales plans, analysis of market trends, and budget and revenue predictions. Pickens earned his B.A. in business administration in marketing from the University of Memphis.

VUMC’s Ehrenfeld to edit health care journal

Jesse Ehrenfeld, M.D., MPH, associate professor of anesthesiology, surgery and biomedical informatics, has been named editor-in-chief of the Journal of Medical Systems, succeeding Ralph Grams, M.D., professor of Pathology and Medical Informatics at the University Of Florida College Of Medicine.

This bimonthly journal has a 36-year record as a leading journal in the area of health care computing and information systems. It serves as a forum for the presentation and discussion of applications of new systems techniques and methods in hospital, clinic and physician’s office administration; perioperative, pathology, radiology and pharmaceutical delivery systems; medical records storage and retrieval; mobile health technologies; and ancillary patient-support systems.

Ehrenfeld divides his time among clinical practice, teaching and research. He also serves as director of the Center for Evidence-Based Anesthesia and as director of the Perioperative Data Systems Research Division. Since earning his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, Ehrenfeld has focused on understanding how information technology can improve surgical safety. He has co-authored 11 textbooks and numerous peer-reviewed scientific articles.

Truxton Trust adds to wealth management team

Truxton Trust has named Miles Kirkland vice president & portfolio manager. Prior to joining Truxton Trust, Kirkland served as principal and portfolio manager for Mastrapasqua Asset Management in Nashville.

Kirkland earned his MBA from Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management and his B.A. from the University of the South.

Van Buren named partner at LBMC

Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC, an accounting and business consulting firm, has named Amy Van Buren as partner in its Tax Services Division.

Van Buren, a CPA, has experience with a variety of industries, including private equity, health care, entertainment, real estate development, manufacturing and service organizations. She is a member of the firm’s Wealth Management Services team, which focuses on wealth transfer and protection strategies along with providing tax planning and compliance services for high net wealth families.

Van Buren is a magna cum laude graduate of Austin Peay State University.

ReviveHealth adds 3 to Nashville office

ReviveHealth has added three new members to its team: Evan Smith and Mark Willis as senior vice presidents, and Jessica Blackburn as marketing manager.

The move takes the firm to 23 employees, including 12 in Nashville.

Smith brings more than 20 years of experience in corporate, financial and investor communications, market analysis and evaluation, corporate positioning, merger and acquisition activity, equity and debt financing, and crisis and issues management. Prior to joining ReviveHealth, he served as lead for investor relations for inVentiv Health and held senior positions at Chandler Chicco Companies and FTI Consulting.

Smith earned a B.A. from the State University of New York at Albany and an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.

Willis brings 28 years of agency-side experience in health care integrated marketing communications. His agency career includes small regional PR firms, large national full-service marketing communication agencies, as well as global communications firm FleishmanHillard.

Willis graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in journalism and public relations.

Blackburn brings seven years of experience in business-to-business strategic marketing and sales support. Prior to joining ReviveHealth, she served as marketing and sales manager at SMS Holdings.

She graduated from Western Kentucky University with a degree in marketing and a minor in economics.

DSi hires 3 project managers

Electronic discovery company DSi – formerly Document Solutions, Inc. – has hired three employees: Daniel Mink as a senior review manager, Abigayle Needham as a review manager and Andrew Kent is as a senior project manager.

Mink brings 13 years of project management experience to DSi, including nine years in eDiscovery for Document Technologies Inc. and DiscoveryWorks Global, Inc. Mink managed the document collection and processing of electronic data from more than 150 companies.

Needham worked as an attorney for six years before going into project management for Deloitte in 2011. She has trained and coached staff on eDiscovery policies, processes and procedures, and she has worked with clients on all phases of eDiscovery projects.

Kent worked as an attorney in Washington, D.C., Nashville and Charlotte, N.C., for seven years and has experience with a variety of eDiscovery platforms, including Relativity, Attenex, Clearwell, ADI, KrollOntrack, Concordance and Ringtail. He has also trained employees on these platforms and managed large review projects.

Rochelle to lead new Atiba group

Atiba Software, LLC has announced the promotion of Amy Rochelle to director of Mobile Development, the company’s mobile development department. Rochelle has served as a developer, designer, project manager and strategist with the company since 2007.

Rochelle is in her 13th year working in web design and development, with previous experience including Ingram Book Company and Digital Dog Media.

She earned a degree in graphic design from Austin Peay State University.

TriStar StoneCrest welcomes family medicine physician

TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center has added E. Thomas Bernhoffer, M.D., family medicine physician, to the Rutherford County medical community.

Bernhoffer is a board-certified family practitioner with 20 years of family medicine experience.

He earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland and completed his residency at The Toledo Hospital in Toledo, Ohio.

McNeely Pigott & Fox adds staff associate

McNeely Pigott & Fox has added Will Krugman as the firm’s newest staff associate.

Krugman, a Nashville native, previously interned at MP&F, gaining experience with clients including Job Corps, the Metro Nashville Airport Authority, Amazon and Hennessy Industries before graduating graduating from the University of Tennessee with a degree in psychology.

Before interning at MP&F, Krugman was a member of U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper’s re-election team and served as a social media consultant for Uloop, a network of online marketplaces for college campus communities.

Jones leads national epidemiology council

Tim Jones, M.D., state epidemiologist and director of the Tennessee Department of Health Communicable and Environmental Diseases and Emergency Preparedness division, has assumed the presidency of the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists for 2013-2104.

CSTE members have surveillance and epidemiology expertise in a broad range of areas including occupational health, infectious diseases, environmental health, chronic diseases, injury control, maternal and child health, and more.

CSTE supports effective public health surveillance and good epidemiologic practice through training, capacity development and peer consultation.

Jones has been with the Tennessee Department of Health since July, 1999. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Amherst College and a Medical Degree from Stanford University School of Medicine.

Prior to moving to Tennessee, Jones practiced with the National Health Service Corps in an underserved area in Utah before joining the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Epidemic Intelligence Service in 1997.
