Tennessee markets Memphis Regional Megasite in small pieces

Print | Front Page | Email this story

BROWNSVILLE (AP) — The 6.5 square miles of land known as the Memphis Regional Megasite was meant to lure the next massive industrial investment to Tennessee.

But now the state is taking a new approach by marketing the property to multiple large companies in an effort to get them to locate at the Haywood County site.

The Commercial Appeal reports (http://bit.ly/1KfQ39U ) that the scope of the 4,100-acre megasite was far larger than the footprint of some of Tennessee's biggest industries. They include the 715-acre Nissan complex in Smyrna, the 352-acre Volkswagen plant Chattanooga and the Hankook Tire plant under construction on 469 acres in Clarksville.

Randy Boyd, the state commissioner for economic and community development, says all three of those wouldn't even take up half the space on the Memphis Regional Megasite property.
