Vanderbilt students rolling into Iowa caucuses

Print | Front Page | Email this story

NASHVILLE (AP) - Vanderbilt University students will be heading to Iowa for the caucus meetings and will be teaming up to support a favorite candidate or just observe the first voting of the 2012 presidential election.

Four vans of about 20 students will be leaving the Nashville campus on Saturday to travel to Des Moines. The students will then split into teams to learn more about and support a Republican presidential candidate, such as "Team Mitt" or "Team Newt." Others will join "Team America," which doesn't support a specific campaign but allows the students to observe the caucus process.

The Iowa Caucus Rolling Seminar is part of a series of rolling seminars that the university's Office of Active Citizenship and Service and the Office of the Dean of Students have sponsored.

Other rolling seminars included a retracing of the 1961 Freedom Rides and a look at the issues surrounding mountaintop removal in Kentucky.
