21. Unlikely heroes propel Titans’ December win streak -

The Tennessee Titans are alive in the NFL playoff chase – they’re in with a win against the Colts on Sunday – thanks to some unlikely sources.

With the Titans on the ropes against the Washington Redskins in the fourth quarter last Saturday, it was a touchdown pass from backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert to tight end MyCole Pruitt that put Tennessee ahead to stay and makes Week 17 meaningful for the Titans’ playoff hopes.

22. Titans find time for shopping despite demands -

47. Mularkey: Titans taking "next step" means lot of work ahead -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans won more games inside the AFC South, won the franchise's first playoff game in 14 years and reached the divisional round for the first time since 2008.

Being embarrassed by the Patriots 35-14 has only reminded the Titans of how big a gap remains.

48. He's back -

About a month ago, following a Dec. 10 loss at Arizona, Marcus Mariota showed a seldom-seen side of his personality.

Clearly dejected, he seemed flustered and distraught while answering questions in his post-game press conference, even answering that he was “pissed off” about his performance when asked why he seemed more bothered than usual following the Titans’ 12-7 loss to the struggling Cardinals.

49. Triumphant Trump celebrates tax win, some fear backlash -

52. Titans at 49ers: What to watch -

Jimmy Garoppolo vs. Dick LeBeau. The Titans defense has been playing very well of late, holding Arizona without a touchdown and shouldering a lot of the load while the offense has struggled. Garoppolo has injected a spark into a moribund 49ers offense, but LeBeau will surely have tricks up his sleeve for his defense to throw at the young quarterback.

53. How bad? Mariota's QB rating now worse than Cutler's -

It had been festering for weeks, but the Tennessee Titans seemed to push the matter aside as they were squeezing out close wins against the NFL’s third-easiest schedule. “Winning ugly” is how it was seen through rose-colored glasses, with an 8-4 record as exhibit 1.

54. Titans set 2nd 'training camp' next week in Arizona -

Road trip! The Tennessee Titans are trying something a little different for a two-game swing out West beginning with this Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Sometime back in the off-season, team officials decided the Titans, rather than make two consecutive cross-country round trips, would only make one and stay in the Pacific time zone for the week in between the games with the Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers.

55. Hey 8-4: Titans stay atop AFC South by beating Texans 24-13 -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Tennessee left tackle Taylor Lewan remembers only too well how the Titans always seemed to find a way to lose through his first two seasons in the NFL.

Motocross’ loss is apparently the NFL and the Tennessee Titans’ gain. As unlikely as it sounds, Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan’s football career almost didn’t take off, because of his love for another endeavor – dirt bike riding.

62. Titans at Jaguars: What to watch -

Taylor Lewan vs. Calais Campbell. Campbell had four of the Jaguars’ 10 sacks Sunday. Yes, you read that right, 10 sacks by the Jacksonville defense. Lewan and the Titans defense did a decent job of protecting Marcus Mariota against Oakland. Keeping Mariota upright is key, because, remember, this is where Mariota suffered the broken fibula on a sack last year.

63. Receiver-rich Titans now surprisingly thin -

For most of their two decades in Tennessee, the wide receiver position has been a glaring hole for the Titans.

Other than the years when Derrick Mason and Drew Bennett were among Steve McNair’s primary targets, and an occasional quality free agent signing like Nate Washington, there have been many swings and misses when it comes to the Titans and the wide receiver position.

67. One gimpy WR no longer a big problem for Titans -

Tennessee Titans rookie receiver Corey Davis limped off the practice field last Thursday with a hamstring injury.

Normally, when the fifth overall pick in the draft goes down with an injury before he even has a chance to contribute, there would be cause for some panic. After all, wide receiver has long been a trouble spot for this franchise, which has rolled through the likes of Tyrone Calico, Kenny Britt, Justin Hunter and Dorial Green-Beckham over the years with very little to show.

87. I was wrong. Mularkey's the right coach for Titans -

In light of the Tennessee Titans’ 6-6 record and continuing relevance in the NFL playoff picture, I offer those three little words that are so hard to say:

“I was wrong.”

And here’s three more:

91. Mularkey sees improvement – just not enough -

So how much improvement has there been with the Tennessee Titans this season?

The bottom line shows a 1-3 record, the same as the past two seasons that produced only a combined five wins in 32 games.

92. Titans at Texans: What to watch -

Be smart and disciplined: By now, everyone knows what happened with Taylor Lewan’s penalty late in the game, barreling into the pile and possibly preventing the Titans from tying or winning the game in the final minute.

93. Raiders at Titans: What to watch -

Score more points: OK, the Titans are 1-1, and may be somewhat encouraged by that. But they also have scored 16 points in both games. As exotic as the “smashmouth” might be, and as much bend-but-don’t break as the defense has put up, let’s be honest here, the Titans won’t be in the win column very often in today’s NFL scoring just 16 points every week. Somehow, some way, the offense has to find a way to score more often.

94. Top Middle Tennessee commercial transactions for August 2016 -

Tennessee’s football team and its fans have the best of both worlds this weekend.

They get to relish in a season-opening victory Thursday night and enjoy a feast of good college football all day Saturday.

97. Players like Mularkey’s honesty – even with media -

You don’t have to be around Mike Mularkey very long to realize something about him that you won’t necessarily find in a lot of NFL head coaches.

Blunt honesty.

Mularkey, when asked a question, doesn’t dance around an uncomfortable issue to protect a player. Instead, he meets it head on and gives an honest assessment, even if it doesn’t always paint a player or situation in the best light.

100. Sitting at my desk, waiting for words to come -

“Author’s obstacle.” Twelve letters. Hint: I prefer neither to say nor write the two-word answer.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge is reported to have described it in 1804 as “an indefinite indescribable Terror.”
