13. Bible shortage? Publishers say tariffs could cause it -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Religious publishers say President Donald Trump's most recent proposed tariffs on Chinese imports could result in a Bible shortage.

That's because millions of Bibles — some estimates put it at 150 million or more — are printed in China each year. Critics of a proposed tariff say it would make the Bible more expensive for consumers and hurt the evangelism efforts of Christian organizations that give away Bibles as part of their ministry.

17. Department stores troubles rise on Penney, Kohl's results -

NEW YORK (AP) — The outlook for department stores got murkier Tuesday after J.C. Penney and Kohl's reported fiscal first quarter results that showed they struggled at the start of the year.

Penney, which has been trying to turn around its business for several years after a disastrous reinvention plan, reported a wider than expected loss and sales declines during the quarter. Kohl's sales momentum took a pause during the quarter as well, and it cut its fiscal 2020 profit outlook as it struggled with slumping sales. It cited damp weather that cut into sales of spring clothing and a competitive environment in discounted home goods.

NEW YORK (AP) — A key federal regulator says he backs T-Mobile's $26.5 billion takeover of rival wireless carrier Sprint, a crucial step for the deal's approval.

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai said Monday he supported the deal because the two companies promised to expand mobile internet access in rural areas and roll out 5G , the next generation of mobile networks.

The Nashville area had 39,514 total real estate sales in 2018, 968 less than record-setting 2017, marking a 2.4 percent decrease, Greater Nashville Realtors figures show.

That also means 2006 has maintained its hold on second place and remains the only year other than 2017 to have surpassed the 40,000-sales mark. 2018 pulled in 486 sales short of the 40,000 mark and 532 less than the 2006 total.

35. US home sales fell in September to slowest pace in 3 years -

WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. home sales fell for the sixth straight month in September, a sign that housing has increasingly become a weak spot for the economy.

The National Association of Realtors said Friday that sales declined 3.4 percent last month, the biggest drop in 2 ½ years, to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.15 million. That's the lowest sales pace since November 2015.
