Jeff Young has been appointed as Tennessee Bank & Trusts’ Williamson County-area executive.

The addition of a new role and greater focus in Williamson County follows the bank’s recent transition to an independent, local, Middle Tennessee bank. The bank opened its flagship branch in Franklin in 2004, and has since established a significant presence in both Williamson and Davidson counties.

35. Senate punts on Nashville-only short-term rentals bill -

A day after the House targeted Nashville with a tough bill on short-term rentals, the Senate deferred action on legislation blocking the Metro Council from enacting any prohibitions.

The Senate Finance, Ways and Means Committee postponed a bill by Sen. John Stevens until January 2018, ending the debate this year on a measure singling out Davidson County efforts to restrict short-term rentals such as Airbnb.

39. Heartbeat bill hits hurdle -

NASHVILLE – State Rep. Micah Van Huss’ “heartbeat bill” ran into an unlikely opponent this week: Tennessee Right to Life.

The legislation would prohibit abortions once a heartbeat is detected by ultrasound in a fetus, usually at six to eight weeks, a measure Van Huss is sponsoring to severely restrict abortions, except in cases when the mother’s life is in jeopardy.

82. Nobel Prize economist, MTSU graduate James Buchanan dies at 93 -

NASHVILLE (AP) - Nobel Prize-winning economist and Tennessee native James M. Buchanan, who helped develop the public choice theory of economics, has died. He was 93.

Family members said in a news release from Middle Tennessee State University, where Buchanan graduated in 1940, that he died Wednesday morning in Blacksburg, Va., where he lived.

Nashville could soon be the set and subject of a new television series.

As reported on Deadline Hollywood, ABC Studios gave the green light to a new drama pilot titled Nashville. The show is being described as a family soap set against the backdrop of the Nashville music scene and will follow one country star at her peak and another star just on the rise.
