1. Learn new offense? Titans' Blaine Gabbert on 8th in 8 years -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Quarterback Blaine Gabbert quickly stopped the reporter asking him about learning his fourth offense in four years.

"Eighth in eight years," he said.

The Tennessee Titans, who signed Gabbert in March to back up Marcus Mariota , are the fourth team that the quarterback has played for since being drafted by Jacksonville in 2011. But coach Mike Vrabel is his ninth different head coach and has the eighth different scheme that Gabbert has had to learn since he entered the NFL out of Missouri.

2. Year 3: Time for Mariota to become a star -

If Year 1 was a good start and Year 2 was another step in the right direction, what should we expect of Marcus Mariota in Year 3?

How about a playoff berth for the team he quarterbacks.

Granted, there are many other factors in play that will determine the success, failure or return to mediocrity of the Titans in 2017. Has the defensive backfield been successfully retooled? Can the offensive line remain one of the best in the NFL? Will the additions at wide receiver pay the expected dividends?

3. Titans? Win the AFC South? Sure, it’s possible -

In a remarkable change of course over recent seasons, the Tennessee Titans entered the month of November still relevant in the AFC South race.

And you know what? I believe the Titans are going to remain relevant – and then some. I can make the case that this team, currently 4-4, is going to win the division and make the playoffs for the first time in eight years.

4. Inauspicious Titans QB streak on the line -

If Marcus Mariota avoids the injury bug and remains the Titans starting quarterback for the better part or all of 2016, he would end a most frustrating streak that has haunted the franchise for nearly a decade.

5. Titans must alter offense to protect Mariota -

As of Sunday, the Tennessee Titans’ mission has changed going forward – or least it should.

After their miserable showing in a 38-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins, let’s not pretend this team is anywhere close to contending, even in the bad AFC South.

6. Jake Locker: Nice guy who deserved better -

Jake Locker’s time with the Tennessee Titans has quietly come to an end. Sure, he’s officially a Titan until March, but Sunday’s shoulder injury vs. the Jets – and his upcoming surgery – ends a star-crossed four-year run.

7. Titans: Rookie Zach Mettenberger will start at QB -

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans will start rookie Zach Mettenberger at quarterback against the Houston Texans on Sunday, switching away from Jake Locker who has missed three of the past four games with injuries.

8. Locker’s opportunities to succeed slipping away -

Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt says Jake Locker is still his starting quarterback.

That, of course, is predicated on when Locker will be able to recover from his bruised right thumb and is well enough to grip and throw a football.

9. Everyone wants Locker to succeed, but can he? -

Perhaps the best thing that Jake Locker has going for him right now is Coach Ken Whisenhunt’s profession of faith.

There is no question that virtually everyone at St. Thomas Sports Park is pulling for Locker to make good in his final chance to be the Titans long-term answer at quarterback.
