The uptick in residential property sales, in both condominium and single-family homes, has been well-documented, but the most active sector this spring is the rental market.

On any given Sunday, there are many more renters scouring the market than those seeking ownership, and there is no comparison to the speed of the game. In most cases, those seeking long-term rentals – six months or more – must rent the properties sight unseen.

37. LP names Southern CEO upon Stevens’ retirement -

The Louisiana-Pacific Corporation board has appointed Brad Southern to succeed Curt Stevens as the CEO July 1, 2017. Stevens, who has served as CEO since 2012, will retire from LP on June 30.

Southern, 57, will become LP’s fifth CEO. He has served as executive vice president and chief operating officer since November 2016. He previously was named executive vice president of OSB in 2015, senior vice president of Siding in 2012 and vice president of specialty operations in 2004.

38. Some cling to landlines, but cell-only homes now dominate -

NEW YORK (AP) — Deborah Braswell, a university administrator in Alabama, is a member of a dwindling group — people with a landline phone at home.

According to a U.S. government study released Thursday, 50.8 percent of homes and apartments had only cellphone service in the latter half of 2016, the first time such households attained a majority in the survey. Braswell and her family are part of the 45.9 percent that still have landline phones. The remaining households have no phone service at all.

40. Lawmakers OK new board appointments at 6 public universities -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The House and Senate have approved Gov. Bill Haslam's nominations for new boards for six public universities.

The new boards are part of the Republican governor's initiative to spin six four-year public universities out of the Tennessee Board of Regents system. Each board will control budgets, tuition and the selection of university presidents.

Scott Cihak, chief executive officer of Kendall Regional Medical Center, an HCA facility in Florida, has been named CEO of HCA’s TriStar Centennial Medical Center, effective Nov. 28.
