East Tennessee Writers Hall of Fame. The gala, now in its 17th year, is a benefit for Friends of Literacy. The virtual event will honor outstanding local writers for their work and celebrates the richness and diversity of the written word in East Tennessee. The event also will include readings and performances by area writers. Thursday, 7-8:30 p.m. $25 per person. Information

UT Gardens Virtual Gala

The eighth annual fundraiser with honorary host Bill and Crissy Haslam, former governor and first lady of Tennessee, to benefit the academic and educational programs of UT Gardens. The virtual event will honor Susan Hamilton, director emerita of UT Gardens, who retired after more than 35 years of service to the people and plants of Tennessee. With the theme of “Grow Big Orange,” the evening will be a fun one with a social happy half-hour, live program and silent auction. Additional details to come. Information
