Friends of Smokies exececutive director will pitch ‘anybody who’ll listen’

Tim Chandler has never found the shift from the Gulf coast where he grew up to the Great Smoky Mountains, where he now lives, that much of a stretch. “I just loved the sounds of the ocean,” he says. “And what I loved about East Tennessee was the streams, the rivers, the waterfalls.”

Steven Arndt, distinguished R&D staff member in the Nuclear Energy and Fuel Cycle Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, began a one-year term June 16 as the 68th president of the American Nuclear Society.

Kid A’ Riffic Fun. Families are invited to participate in crafts, games and other activities in different Knoxville parks and natural areas. Sponsored by Home Federal Bank, the event is for families with children age 2-12 offering activities, games, hands-on crafts and other fun pursuits hosted by the City of Knoxville Office of Special Events, Parks and Recreation Department and community partners. Statewide early voting begins Friday

Tennessee’s early voting period for the Aug. 4 primaries and general election begins Friday, July 15, and continues through Saturday, July 30. Polling locations will be open Monday-Saturday.
