Knoxville’s Gina Rouse won her fourth consecutive title at the 2019 Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon.

Rouse, 39, won with a time of 2:50:15, her best time to date, having won in 2:56:33 in 2018; 2:52:06 in 2017; and 2:53:16 in 2016.

In the men’s full marathon, Birhanu Dare of New York won with a time of 2:24:41. Bryan Morseman of Bath, New York, placed second with a time of 2:27:59. He placed first in the 2018 and 2016 events with times of 2:27:11 and 2:25:01, respectively.

Justin Weinmeister of Knoxville placed third with a time of 2:30:04.

Knoxville’s Whitney Heins placed second in the women’s full marathon at 3:01:26, and Maryville’s Rebecca Weinand placed third with a time of 3:11:23.

“It was a banner year for the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon,” Race Director Jason Altman said. “No matter how you look at the numbers, the 2019 race weekend has been a success: 15th annual event; first year with the finish line and post-race party in World’s Fair Park; Gina Rouse’s fourth consecutive win in her hometown race; 7,700-plus participants; thousands of spectators, volunteers and support from City of Knoxville and Knoxville Police and Fire departments; and Covenant Health signing on for three more years as presenting sponsor.

“As always, however, it’s the individual stories of triumph that make this event special. Whether you overcame an obstacle, set and met a goal, took a step toward better health and fitness, or simply had fun and cheered each other on, you’re a winner today.”

The Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon continued its reign as the largest competitive road race in East Tennessee. Now in its 15th year, the 2019 events had more than 7,700 registrants.

“We are committed to our mission to improve the quality of life through better health, and that’s why we’ve extended our title sponsorship of the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon,” Covenant Health President and CEO Jim VanderSteeg said. “From the collective energy of the participants throughout race weekend to the funds raised for other health-focused community initiatives, we believe in the impact this event makes for so many in East Tennessee and beyond.”
