Exhibit commemorates 101st Airborne Division
NASHVILLE (AP) - Items from Fort Campbell, the Tennessee State Museum and the commanding officer of a 101st Airborne Division unit celebrated for its role in World War II are on display in Nashville.
The exhibit, "Rendezvous with Destiny," also showcases scenes from "Band of Brothers," an HBO series based on Stephen Ambrose's book. The book and movie tell the story of "Easy" Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, and commanding officer Dick Winters.
The exhibit in the museum's Military Branch in the War Memorial Building in downtown Nashville includes Winters' uniform, pistol and other personal items, borrowed from a private collection.
The museum says the division's post-World War II service is also recognized, including Vietnam, Desert Storm and Desert Shield service as well as current deployments.
The free exhibit is open through Jan. 10.
