TSU president joins Pinnacle Financial board
Pinnacle Financial Partners has added Tennessee State University President Glenda Baskin Glover, Ph.D., JD, CPA, to its board.
She joins 12 other business and community leaders who serve as Pinnacle directors.
Glover is a CPA, an attorney, and is one of two African-American women in the nation to hold the Ph.D./CPA/JD combination.
Having served as TSU’s president since January 2013, Glover previously was the dean of the College of Business at Jackson State University in Jackson, Miss. Previous roles include chairperson of the accounting department at Howard University, CFO of an engineering firm, tax manager at a major public utility and accountant with a Big Four CPA firm.
Glover has been a corporate board member of three other publicly traded corporations: Citigroup-Student Loan Corporation, American Learning Corporation and First Guaranty Bancshares. She served as either chair of the audit committee or as a financial expert on each board.
She is the author of more than 100 articles and papers, and is regarded as one of the nation’s experts on corporate governance. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Tennessee State University, pursued an MBA at Clark Atlanta University and completed her doctorate in business from George Washington University. She later completed her law degree from Georgetown University.
TriStar Centennial appoints chief medical officer
Divya Shroff, M.D., FHM, has been appointed chief medical officer of TriStar Centennial Medical Center.
In her role as CMO, Shroff will be responsible for overseeing medical affairs and providing strategic leadership to TriStar Centennial’s more than 1,000 physicians.
Shroff most recently served as the chief clinical transformation officer and vice president in the Clinical Services Group for HCA. In this role, she had responsibility for the clinical implementation of the electronic health record (EHR) system across the HCA enterprise, clinical leadership for mobile health technology development and telehealth deployment for patient and provider engagement and improved clinical workflow, as well as other efforts that have facilitated communication and collaboration among physicians.
Prior to joining HCA, Shroff worked for the Veterans Health Administration as the associate chief of staff-informatics at the Washington D.C., VA Medical Center.
Shroff earned her medical degree from the University of Missouri and completed her residency in internal medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
Thoracic surgeon joins Tristar Centennial
Tammy M. Baxter, M.D., FACS, a board-certified general and thoracic surgeon, has joined the TriStar Centennial Medical Center medical staff. Baxter has joined Centennial Thoracic Surgical Associates, part of TriStar Medical Group.
Baxter earned her medical degree from the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Ga., and completed a cardiothoracic surgery residency at The Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Ga., as well as Vanderbilt University.
Subsequently, she completed an advanced thoracic fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgery, Women in Thoracic Surgery, General Thoracic Surgery Club, Southern Thoracic Surgical Association and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Americana Music Assn. announces 2014 board
The Americana Music Association has announced the outcome of its annual Board of Directors election. The results include both the member-voted and board-appointed directors, for terms to start in January.
Re-elected or appointed for new terms are John Allen (BMG Chrysalis), Jonathan Levine (Paradigm Talent Agency), John Ingrassia (Vector Management) and Kurt Vitolo (KV Financial Group, PC), who will serve once again as Treasurer.
Musicians Rodney Crowell and Buddy Miller return as artist ambassadors.
New board members starting their terms in 2014 include Cliff O’Sullivan (Sugar Hill Records), Scott Goldman (GRAMMY Foundation/MusiCares), Wayne Leeloy (Warner Music Nashville) and Carrie Colliton (Dept. of Record Stores/Record Store Day).

WGU Tennessee hires community relations head
Western Governors University Tennessee has hired Doug Harris to lead statewide outreach initiatives as its new community relations manager.
Harris will travel across Tennessee to educate prospective students and the general public about the more than 50 degree programs offered by the online, nonprofit, competency-based university.
Harris’ previous work experience includes a stint as campus director for Genesis Career College in Nashville, where he helped strengthen academic programs and boosted student recruitment. Prior to that, he was an on-site program manager for Strayer University.
Harris received his bachelor’s degree from Northern Kentucky University, then went on to get his master’s degree in education, specializing in educational management and technology, from Strayer University.
VUMC’s Aaronson named Spine Center director
Vanderbilt’s Oran Aaronson, M.D., associate professor of neurological surgery, has been named medical director of the Vanderbilt Spine Center.
Founded in 2010, the Vanderbilt Spine Center offers a full range of nonsurgical and surgical treatment options, including medications, physical therapy and injections. The Spine Center now has six locations in Middle Tennessee.
Aaronson joined the Vanderbilt neurosurgical faculty in 2004 after residency at VUMC. He also completed a Master of Management in Health Care at Owen Graduate School of Management.
Aronoff to lead infectious diseases group at VUMC
David Aronoff, M.D., has been named the new director of Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Division of Infectious Diseases.
Aronoff comes to Vanderbilt from the University of Michigan Health System, where he was an associate professor within the Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Internal Medicine. He was also a faculty member in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and a member of the executive committee of the University of Michigan Reproductive Sciences Program.
He completed his internal medicine residency, which included a year as chief resident, as well as his infectious diseases clinical fellowship and a research fellowship in clinical pharmacology at Vanderbilt.
Over the past few years, Aronoff has become engaged in the mission of training future health care providers and investigators, providing world-class patient care and striving to be at the forefront of research. He is looking forward to continuing to build on this directive with a team that has already created a solid foundation.
Fridrich & Clark Realty adds new agents
Chip Peay and Charita Upkins have joined the Green Hills office of Fridrich & Clark Realty.
Peay, a native of Nashville, worked in the music industry as a talent agent after attending Vanderbilt University. He then founded Chip Peay Entertainment, and for 21 years served as the personal manager for a variety of artists in the music industry.
Upkins entered the real estate industry in 2005 and specializes in both Davidson and Williamson Counties. Outside of real estate, Upkins served five years as a senior homeowner underwriter, assessing homes throughout Middle Tennessee. Upkins also worked in the medical sales industry for more than 10 years. Additionally, Upkins is as a professional speaker addressing female audiences on topics of personal excellence, goal setting, self-esteem and the importance of education.
Also, Ann Marie Strickmaker, an affiliate broker with Fridrich & Clark Realty’s Green Hills office, recently earned the Accredited Buyer Representative designation by the Real Estate Buyer’s Agent Council.

Airport’s Ramsey honored by concessions group
Rebecca Ramsey, assistant director of properties for the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority, has been named the 2013 Airports Council International-North America Concessions Person of the Year.
Ramsey oversees the retail concessions program at Nashville International Airport. She joined MNAA in 1992, and concession sales at BNA have grown 18.1 percent since 2008 under her leadership.
