NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee State Guard has a new commander.

The Tennessee National Guard said in a news release Wednesday that Brig. Gen. Kenneth T. Takasaki relinquished command to Brig. Gen. Craig Johnson, a former Tennessee guardsman, in a ceremony in Smyrna.

Takasaki was appointed in 2007 and reappointed in 2010. He is retiring after nearly 30 years in active duty and Reserve assignments.

Johnson has served more than 30 years in the Tennessee Army National Guard. In his last assignment, he was commander of 194th Engineer Brigade, headquartered in Jackson, Tennessee.

Brig. Gen. Tommy Baker, Tennessee National Guard assistant adjutant general-Army, officiated at a formal change-of-command ceremony on Sunday.
