Tennessee gets $1M-plus from National Endowment for the Arts

In the second major grant announcement during its 50th Anniversary year, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) awarded $1,054,900 to the support of a variety of arts and culture projects in Tennessee.

The following organizations received funding:

-- Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, Nashville:

$35,000

-- Metro Nashville Arts Commission, Nashville: $50,000

-- Nashville Children’s Theatre, Nashville: $10,000

-- Nashville Repertory Theatre, Nashville: $10,000

-- Nashville Symphony, Nashville: $25,000

-- Humanities Tennessee, Nashville: $20,000

-- Salama Urban Ministries, Nashville: $10,000

-- Tennessee Arts Commission, Statewide: $799,900

-- Gateway Chamber Orchestra, Clarksville: $10,000

-- Chattanooga Symphony & Opera, Chattanooga: $15,000

-- City of Cleveland, Cleveland: $25,000

-- Cumberland County Playhouse, Crossville: $10,000

-- Knox County: $10,000

-- White Lightning Trail Festival, Inc., Tazewell: $25,000

For this round, funds were distributed to four categories: Art Works; Research: Art Works; Our Town; and State and Regional Partnerships.

“The arts are all around us, enhancing our lives in ways both subtle and obvious, expected and unexpected,” said NEA Chairman Jane Chu. “Supporting projects like the ones in Tennessee offers more opportunities to engage in the arts every day.”

“This federal funding will help Tennessee communities continue to thrive through the arts,” says Anne B. Pope, Executive Director of the Tennessee Arts Commission. “The number of both urban and rural organizations granted speaks to the quality, depth and diversity of the arts across the state and brings the awardees onto the national stage. Congratulations to all awarded.”
