NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee General Assembly's website has won the 2015 Online Democracy Award from the National Conference of State Legislatures.

The award is presented annually to a legislature, chamber or caucus for making democracy accessible in a user-friendly way.

It is the second time the Tennessee General Assembly has won the award. The first time was in 2009.

Judges praised the site for being welcoming and engaging citizens, and for including features like a consistent design; access to lawmakers and calendars; bill summaries written in plain English; and a mobile-friendly version.

The redesigned website was heavily criticized toward the end of this year's legislative session for intermittent video streaming as the fate of several major bills was being decided. Legislative officials blamed the streaming vendor.
