TBI investigating Rutherford County Sheriff Arnold

Print | Front Page | Email this story

MURFREESBORO (AP) - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is looking into connections between Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold and his family members who own companies that sell electronic cigarettes and snacks to inmates at the county jail.

The Daily News Journal (http://tnne.ws/1GOGYE8 ) reports that a TBI spokesman confirmed that District Attorney Jennings Jones has asked the agency to launch an investigation of the sheriff and Chief Deputy Joe Russell.

TBI spokesman Josh DeVine said the agency wasn't in a position to discuss specifics.

Jones said he contacted the state Comptroller's office last week to investigate the financial connections between Arnold, Russell and Georgia-based company JailCigs.

JailCigs is owned by Sheriff Arnold's aunt and uncle. Records show the couple owns another company called JailSnacks, which sells snacks to inmates.
