Nashville Area
State fair contract awarded to fair association
NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee State Fair board has awarded the contract for this year's fair to a group that likely won't pay Metro government as much as a competing bidder.
According to The Tennessean newspaper, the board awarded the contract to the Tennessee State Fair Association, which guaranteed the government $50,000 plus a portion of ticket sales.
Delta Ag-Business of Cordova, Tenn., had guaranteed the city $250,000, but board members said the company had provided inaccurate information about its leadership.
Metro government has stopped operating the fair over concerns about its financial performance. Despite its name, the fair draws mostly attendees from Nashville and surrounding towns.
The fate of the fair has been clouded in recent months as officials decided whether to continue it.
