1. Bradley wins Chapter 11 Reorganization of the Year -

Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP has won the 2018 Chapter 11 Reorganization of the Year ($50 to $100 million) Award from M&A Advisor for the firm’s role in the Chapter 11 case of Vanguard Healthcare and its 17 subsidiaries.

2. Tax-free holiday set for Friday-Sunday -

Tennessee’s annual sales tax holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. Friday and ends at 11:59 p.m. Sunday night.

Among tax-free items being sold tax-free during that period are clothing for $100 or less, school and school art supplies for $100 or less and computers for $1,500 or less, including CPUs and other bundled components such as speakers, monitor, keyboard, mouse, cables and basic software.

3. Brentwood's Vanguard Healthcare sued over nursing homes -

NASHVILLE (AP) — A bankrupt Brentwood company is facing a federal lawsuit over conditions at six Tennessee nursing homes.

WPLN-FM reports (http://bit.ly/2bTGI9m) prosecutors accuse Vanguard Healthcare LLC of earning big profits while providing "grossly substandard care." They also accuse the company of fraudulently billing TennCare.

Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP Nashville partners – William L. Norton, III and Todd Presnell – have been elected as fellows of the Tennessee Bar Foundation, an association of 818 attorneys from across the state.

9. Mulraine joins Bone McAllester Norton -

Bone McAllester Norton PLLC has hired entertainment attorney and Belmont Law professor Loren E. Mulraine as the firm’s 38th attorney.

Mulraine will serve as of counsel at Bone McAllester Norton, where he will focus his practice on entertainment law, intellectual property and business and corporate law. He will continue in his role at Belmont University College of Law, teaching courses in copyright law, entertainment law, media law and intellectual property law.

The Greater Nashville Association of Realtors has appointed Jarron Springer, current president of the Tennessee Grocers & Convenience Store Association, as its new chief executive officer, effective Feb. 1.

11. Handful of weak earnings stall the stock market -

NEW YORK (AP) — Weak earnings reports from a handful of U.S. companies are tugging stock indexes slightly lower.

Tenet Healthcare plunged after the hospital operator said its third-quarter profit fell as its absorbed costs associated with its acquisition of Vanguard Health Systems. Delphi Automotive dropped after the company cut its earnings forecast.

12. Tenet Healthcare buying Vanguard Health for $1.8B -

DALLAS (AP) — Tenet Healthcare Corp. plans to buy fellow hospital operator Nashville-based Vanguard Health Systems Inc. for about $1.8 billion, in a deal that will expand its reach into new markets as millions of patients start to gain insurance coverage through the health care overhaul.

13. Vanguard Healthcare agrees to $2M settlement -

NASHVILLE (AP) - Vanguard Healthcare LLC and its subsidiary Vanguard Health Care Ancillary have settled a whistleblower lawsuit with the federal government and Tennessee over claims that the firm defrauded Medicare and Medicaid for double-billing for services provided in nursing homes.

14. Banking veteran Lassing joins Pinnacle Partners -

Longtime banker Chuck Lassing has joined Pinnacle Financial Partners as a senior vice president and financial advisor in the client advisory group.

Lassing’s experience in the financial services industry spans more than 28 years. Before joining Pinnacle, Lassing was a senior vice president and relationship manager for Reliant Bank. Other roles include serving as a senior vice president and city president for Magna Bank in Brentwood and as regional president – Middle Tennessee for National Bank of Commerce.
