NEW YORK (AP) — Nexstar said it is buying rival TV station operator Media General after Meredith agreed to allow Media General to get out of a takeover bid for Meredith.

Media General, which owns Nashville's WKRN, had offered to buy media company Meredith, which owns Nashville's WSMV, in September. About two months later, Nexstar offered to buy Media General.

Nexstar Broadcasting, attempting to drive to wedge between Media General and Meredith Corp., offered nearly $1.9 billion to buy Media General on Monday.

Media General Inc. earlier this month made a $2.4 billion offer for Meredith, which owns television stations – including Nashville's WSMV – and publishes about 20 magazines. The deal, according to Media General, would create a company with almost 90 television stations in 54 markets and magazines including Better Homes and Gardens and Martha Stewart Living.

15. Wine and tapas? Taco Bell to serve them in Chicago -

NEW YORK (AP) — What kind of wine pairs best with a Chalupa? Taco Bell customers in Chicago and San Francisco will soon be able to find out.

The chain says it will open a location that serves wine, beer, sangria and frozen mixed drinks in Chicago next week, marking the first time it will serve alcohol in the United States. The new restaurant will also feature trends Taco Bell says it is seeing among millennials: "tapas-style" appetizers, a mural by a local artist and an open kitchen.

Meredith Corp. says it is ending subscription service of "Ladies' Home Journal" due to declining advertiser interest.

The magazine was launched in 1883 and is one of the nation's oldest women's magazines. It remains quite popular with a current circulation of 3.2 million. But with a media reader age of 57, the magazine faces tough competition for advertisers amid a sea of other women's magazines that appeal to broader demographics.
