9. No way out? US, China tariffs may become the 'new normal' -

WASHINGTON (AP) — The path to peace in a trade war between the United States and China is getting harder to find as the world's two biggest economies pile ever more taxes on each other's products.

The United States is scheduled to slap tariffs on $200 billion in Chinese imports Monday, adding to the more than $50 billion worth that already face U.S. import taxes. China has vowed to counterpunch with tariffs on $60 billion in U.S. goods.

22. Vanderbilt nursing faculty gets $1.2M boost -

The Vanderbilt University School of Nursing has received a $1,221,359 grant to aid students who plan to become nursing faculty.

The grant is for doctor of nursing practice students.

The new award brings the funds the school has received for the program since 2008 to $7.3 million.

Since launching his solo career after years with the Drive-By Truckers, Isbell has been racking up both critical acclaim as well as Americana and Grammy awards with his Southern rock albums. He won Wednesday night for his album "Something More Than Free," and his song, "24 Frames."

29. Guy Clark, Grammy-winning musician, dead at 74 -

NASHVILLE (AP) - Texas singer-songwriter Guy Clark, who helped mentor a generation of songwriters and wrote hits like "L.A. Freeway" and "Desperados Waiting for a Train," has died. He was 74.

Clark died Tuesday at his home in Nashville, Tennessee, according to his manager, Keith Case. He'd been in poor health, although Case didn't give an official cause of death.
