1. US gives endangered status to Tennessee freshwater fish -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has granted endangered species status to a Tennessee freshwater fish.

The Center for Biological Diversity says the nearly extinct Barrens topminnow was proposed for endangered species protection four decades ago. The fish is found only in Middle Tennessee in clear, spring-fed Barrens Plateau streams.

TOKYO (AP) — Japan resumed commercial whaling Monday after 31 years, meeting a long-cherished goal of traditionalists that's seen as a largely lost cause due to slowing demand for the meat and changing views on conservation.

TOKYO (AP) — Japan announced Wednesday that it is leaving the International Whaling Commission to resume commercial hunts for the animals for the first time in 30 years, but said it would no longer go to the Antarctic for its much-criticized annual killings.

4. Commerce Union becomes Reliant Bancorp -

Brentwood-based Commerce Union Bancshares, Inc. changed its name to Reliant Bancorp, as of the last day of 2017.

Commerce Union is the parent company for Reliant Bank.

The action preceded the company’s merger with Community First, Inc. the parent company of Community First Bank & Trust located in Columbia, Tennessee which occurred on Jan. 1
