1. Former clerk, paralegal joins firm as associate -

James Brandon Tomlin has joined MTR Family Law as an associate.

Tomlin is a 2019 graduate of Belmont University College of Law, where he was president of the Family Law Society and was a member of the Belmont American Inns of Court. Tomlin graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 2015 with a degree in criminal justice.

2. Bradley welcomes Davis as litigation associate -

Judea S. Davis is joining Bradley Arant Boult Cummings as an associate in the Litigation Practice Group.

Previously, Davis clerked for Judge Michelle Childs of the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina and Judge Garrison Hill of the South Carolina Court of Appeals. She served as a law fellow and law clerk for the Equal Justice Initiative, researching constitutional and criminal law issues and representing clients before the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles.

3. VU’s Anderson moves to Bass, Berry & Sims -

Bass, Berry & Sims has formed a higher-education practice group with the addition of former Vanderbilt University General Counsel Audrey Anderson.

As chair of the group, Anderson will lead a multidisciplinary team of attorneys in a range of legal matters needed by academic institutions. Anderson will practice in the firm’s Nashville and Washington, D.C. offices.

4. Sarah Cannon launches new collaboration -

Sarah Cannon Development Innovations has announced a new strategic collaboration with Pivotal, a European contract research organization.

The partnership will expand access to novel immunotherapies in early phase clinical trials in Europe.

5. HealthTrustSM adds Prime Healthcare -

Nashville-based HealthTrustSM, a health care performance improvement company, has signed an agreement with Prime Healthcare of Ontario, California.

The pact designates HealthTrust as Prime’s exclusive group purchasing organization, effective March 1. All of Prime Healthcare’s 45 hospitals and affiliated facilities in 14 states are included.

6. XMI hires vice president, managing director of financial operations -

XMI, a provider of business process management services for entrepreneurial, high growth businesses, has added Joshua Farber, MBA, CPA, as vice president and managing director of financial operations.

7. Waller elects 3 to board, names practice leaders -

James H. “Jay” Nixon III, W. Travis Parham and Amanda K. Jester have been elected to the board of directors of Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis, LLP, while Mark Peters (labor and employment) and David R. Clay and MaryEllen S. Pickrell (corporate) have been named practice leaders at the firm.

9. INSBANK’s Gupton returns as senior VP, COO -

Green Hills-based INSBANK has named Scott Gupton as its senior vice president and chief operating officer. Gupton, who has nearly two decades of banking experience, will oversee INSBANK’s operations, marketing, human resources, information technology and corporate and regulatory reporting.

10. Health Care Council announces new board -

William F. Carpenter III, chairman and CEO, LifePoint Hospitals, will continue to serve as chairman of the Nashville Health Care Council board of directors for the second year.

William Gracey, president and CEO, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, continues as vice chairman of the board.

11. Barge Waggoner’s Higgins honored as top engineer -

Bob Higgins, president and CEO of Barge, Waggoner, Sumner and Cannon, Inc., has been named 2014 Engineer of the Year by the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers.

12. Stone is elected president of Realtors group -

Hagan Stone has been elected president of the Greater Nashville Association of Realtors for 2014. Stone, who is affiliated with the Brentwood office of Pilkerton Realtors, begins his one-year term Jan. 1.

13. Brookdale names Smith new CEO, reports 4Q loss -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Brookdale Senior Living Inc. has named its general counsel, T. Andrew Smith, to become the senior living facility operator's next CEO. He will replace retiring CEO Bill Sheriff in about a week.

14. Bass, Berry & Sims names new members -

Former associates Wendee M. Hilderbrand, Michael J. Holley and Price W. Wilson have been elected to membership in the firm of Bass, Berry & Sims PLC.

15. Holmes named Firstbank president -

Veteran banker and Lexington native Chris Holmes will become the third president of FirstBank since it was purchased by businessman Jim Ayers in 1984. Doug Cruickshanks, who has served as FirstBank president since 2002, will become vice chairman of the bank’s board of directors.

16. Brookdale will buy Horizon, form venture with HCP -

NEW YORK (AP) — Brookdale Senior Living Inc. said Wednesday it agreed to acquire senior living community operator Horizon Bay Realty, and will form a joint venture with HCP Inc. to manage some of those communities.
