1. Network nightly newscasts morph, adapt for the streaming age -

NEW YORK (AP) — For more than half a century, ABC, CBS and NBC have aired evening newscasts each weeknight on television. This fall, the competition has spread to another medium.

The launch of John Dickerson's "CBS News Prime Time" in September means that all three news divisions have unique streaming newscasts at night, a nod to the future and bid to reach young people who aren't watching television at dinnertime.

2. Ohio GOP House candidate has misrepresented military service -

WASHINGTON (AP) — Campaigning for a northwestern Ohio congressional seat, Republican J.R. Majewski presents himself as an Air Force combat veteran who deployed to Afghanistan after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, once describing "tough" conditions including a lack of running water that forced him to go more than 40 days without a shower.

3. House passes election law overhaul in response to Jan. 6 -

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House has passed legislation to overhaul the rules for certifying the results of a presidential election as lawmakers accelerate their response to the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection and Donald Trump's failed attempt to remain in power.

4. Harris, Katz join Bradley as partners -

Nathan S. Harris and Benjamin Katz have joined Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP as partners in the Nashville office.

6. Police: Republican's tour of Capitol complex not suspicious -

WASHINGTON (AP) — Police have determined there was nothing suspicious about a tour of two Capitol office buildings that a House Republican gave to about 15 people the day before Jan. 6, 2021, when rioting supporters of then-President Donald Trump attacked the Capitol.

7. SEC Tournament champ Vols get No. 3 seed -

The ninth-ranked Tennessee Volunteers have an argument that they deserved a better seed than third in the South Region.

Tennessee ranked second nationally with 11 Quad-1 wins behind only Kansas, which had 12. The Volunteers won the Southeastern Conference Tournament title on Sunday for the first time since 1979. The Vols also beat Auburn late in the regular season and Kentucky in the tournament semifinals.

12. 'Umbrella of stress' on GM staff, 2 years after plant closed -

When General Motors ended a half-century of building cars in Ohio's blue collar corner, 1,600 workers had to decide whether to accept the automaker's offer to move to another factory.

Those with enough seniority retired. A few started new careers. Everyone else from GM's shuttered assembly plant in Lordstown went as far away as Texas, Tennessee, and Missouri, some leaving behind their families so they could hang onto their pensions and high-paying union jobs.

Attorney Russ Overby is retiring from Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee, where he began practicing in 1974.

Before his retirement, Overby was lead attorney of the firm’s Health, Income and Education Practice Group, specializing in poverty law. He worked at Legal Aid Society’s Nashville office from 1974 until 1993, serving as lead counsel in a number of significant federal and state cases involving public benefits and the rights of children in state institutions. He was managing attorney of the Legal Aid Society’s Murfreesboro office from 1993 to 1997, then left the firm from 1997 to 2005 to work as a welfare reform lawyer at the Tennessee Justice Center.
