NASHVILLE (AP) — Google plans to buy power from Tennessee and Alabama solar farms under a deal with the Tennessee Valley Authority.

Google announced Wednesday that it will buy 413 megawatts of output from 1.6 million solar panels at several new Tennessee and Alabama solar farms the combined size of 65,000 home rooftop systems.

27. TVA: Coal ash removal would take 24 years -

NASHVILLE (AP) — A federal utility says it would take 24 years to dig up and move its coal ash at a Tennessee power plant under a court order that it still might appeal.

The Tennessee Valley Authority said it will start the massive undertaking at its Gallatin Fossil Plant within 30 days unless a judge orders otherwise, according to the utility's court filing in U.S. District Court in Nashville on Tuesday.

33. Officials investigating high toxin levels at Tennessee plant -

MEMPHIS (AP) — Health and environmental officials say they are investigating how high levels of arsenic and lead were found in groundwater under a Tennessee coal power plant.

Shelby County Health Department director Alisa Haushalter said in a statement the agency is working with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation to monitor the probe into how toxins appeared in wells that check for pollution coming from coal ash ponds at Allen Fossil Plant in Memphis.

83. 2 rafting deaths in 2 days on Ocoee River -

BENTON (AP) — Authorities say two women have died in two days while rafting on the Ocoee River in Tennessee.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/15a4Bpg) reports that an Atlanta woman who was rafting with family and friends was thrown overboard in rapids. She reportedly grabbed a rescue rope but then lost consciousness.

94. TVA plans pollution reduction at Gallatin plant -

NASHVILLE (AP) - The Tennessee Valley Authority expects to spend as much as $1 billion to reduce harmful emissions from a coal-fired power plant by up to 95 percent.

According to The Tennessean (http://bit.ly/MVmo9x ), the work at the Gallatin Fossil Plant, northeast of Nashville, is projected to be completed by 2017. Four large scrubbers are planned at the plant, which burns 13,000 tons of coal per day and generates enough electricity to power 300,000 homes.
