12. Marchetti to serve as president of NFJE -

L. Gino Marchetti, Jr., managing partner at Taylor, Pigue, Marchetti and Blair, PLLC, has been elected to serve as the 2018-2019 president of the National Foundation for Judicial Excellence.

The NFJE was founded in 2004 and provides appellate judges with educational programs and other tools to enhance the rule of law and the administration of justice. In its 13 years, the foundation has hosted nearly 1400 appellate court judges from 44 states at its annual symposium.

15. House votes to amend Constitution to state rights come from God -

The House of Representatives took the first legislative step Monday toward rewriting the state Constitution with a measure recognizing liberties come from Almighty God rather than governments.

In a 69-17 vote, the House passed the resolution by Rep. Micah Van Huss, an East Tennessee Republican, to amend the Constitution, a move requiring votes by consecutive General Assemblies and passage by the state’s voters.

16. House committee passes bill to make Oral chemo more affordable -

Despite objections to a pharmaceutical reporting requirement, a House committee this morning passed legislation designed to make oral chemotherapy medication more affordable.

By a 16-2 vote, the House Insurance and Banking Committee approved legislation sponsored by Rep. William Lamberth prohibiting an insurance provider from requiring a higher insurance co-payment for oral anti-cancer medication than for injected chemotherapy medication. The measure moves next to the Calendar & Rules Committee and then the House floor.

NASHVILLE (AP) - The House Republican Caucus has elected Rep. Timothy Hill to succeed Jeremy Durham as majority whip.

Durham stepped down as whip and later withdrew from the House GOP caucus amid allegations of sexual harassment and other questionable behavior. Durham has been granted a leave of absence while he seeks what he has called medical and pastoral guidance.

NASHVILLE (AP) — Republican Caucus Chairwoman Debra Maggart lost her state House primary Thursday to a retired Air Force officer backed by the National Rifle Association.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting Thursday night, Lt. Col. Courtney Rogers had 3,392 votes, or 58 percent, compared with Maggart's 2,421 votes, or 42 percent.

35. TBI probing whether voters turned away in Rhea -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is probing whether Rhea County election officials illegally turned away voters they thought were Democrats.

According to The Knoxville News Sentinel, county election administrator Theresa Snyder said 10 voters with a history of voting in Democratic primary elections were barred from casting ballots in the Republican primary during early voting. Snyder claimed there is an orchestrated crossover voting campaign to back GOP challenger Ron Travis, who is running against state Rep. Jim Cobb in the 31st District.
