The Tennessee Medical Association has named Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s M. Kevin Smith, M.D., Ph.D., MMHC of Nashville as 2020-21 president of the member-based nonprofit advocacy organization that represents 9,500 physicians statewide.

Third Annual Health Care Reform Seminar. A panel of experts from different corners of the industry will provide practical advice on what employers and individuals should be doing to prepare for reform. Panelists are:James Blumstein, a health care and constitutional law professor at Vanderbilt University; Tennessee Sen. Jim Tracy; Chris Ramsey, director of the Office of Health Care Reform for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Tennessee;Alex Tolbert, founder of Bernard Health, the country’s first independent health care retail store. Free Legal Clinic: The Lipscomb University Institute for Law, Justice and Society is hosting a free legal advice clinic in Lipscomb University’s Swang Chapel in the Ezell Center, 5:30-8:30 p.m. Six volunteer attorneys will be available to meet with clients and discuss legal problems, answer questions, explain legal rights or review legal documents. The public can come to the clinic with questions on immigration, conflict disputes, debt issues, inheritance or tax issues, or any other type of simple legal matter. Clients should bring any papers that deal with the problem. Lawyers may only have 10 to 15 minutes to talk to each person. They will not be available to take on cases presented by clients at the clinic, and they won’t be able to go to court with clients from the clinic. Free parking is available on campus, and the Lipscomb University campus has a Metro bus stop on Belmont Boulevard, at the softball field entrance adjacent to the Ezell Center.
