NASHVILLE (AP) — The former HCA Healthcare CEO who is currently Belmont University's board chairman and his wife have donated $10 million to the Nashville institution's new medical school.

The private university says Milton Johnson and his wife, Denice, announced the gift Wednesday for the Thomas F. Frist Jr. College of Medicine.

17. HCA's Johnson the highest-paid CEOs in Tennessee -

Here are the top paid CEOs by state for 2018, as calculated by The Associated Press and Equilar, an executive data firm.

The survey considered only publicly traded companies with more than $1 billion in revenue that filed their proxy statements with federal regulators between Jan. 1 and April 30. Not every state has such a company headquartered there. The survey includes only CEOs who have been in place for at least two years, but it does not limit the survey to companies in the S&P 500, as the AP's general compensation study does. That's why it includes such CEOs as Tesla's Elon Musk.

18. Inventory, construction jump, market stays steady -

Building permits increased 30 percent during the first quarter of 2019 compared to last year and totaled $1.43 billion, says real estate developer Charlie Vaughn of Cherry and Associates.

As was reported last week, residential sales decreased 6% in May while inventory increased.

26. HCA CEO Johnson to retire, company lays out succession plan -

HCA Healthcare CEO R. Milton Johnson will retire at the end of the year and be replaced by veteran executive Sam Hazen, the hospital chain's president and chief operating officer.

The company also said Monday that Johnson will leave its board next spring and be replaced as chairman by Thomas F. Frist III.

NASHVILLE (AP) — HCA is donating $1 million to Tennessee State University for scholarships.

According to the school, the gift will come in intervals of $250,000 over four years and support students studying health sciences.

John Jancek begins his third season as Tennessee’s defensive coordinator under head coach Butch Jones, and thanks to two solid recruiting classes should have his best defense with the Vols.

UT is bigger and faster on the defensive side than the previous two seasons, when the Vols showed improvement from the 2012 season by shaving more than 100 yards and 11 points per game allowed.

60. Uniguest names Morgan chief executive officer -

Uniguest, a provider of secure managed technology services, has announced the appointment of Joseph P. Morgan, Jr. as chief executive officer, effective July 6, 2015.

Morgan had served as president and chief executive officer of The Standard Register Company, a publicly traded company with revenues approaching $1 billion, since January 2009. At The Standard Register Company, he was responsible for the transformation of the printing giant to an integrated communications company leveraging both technology and innovation to develop a market-focused strategy. Morgan also served on the Board of Directors and held a number of community and charitable leadership positions during his tenure with the company.

Managing attorney Michele Johnson will succeed Gordon Bonnyman as executive director of the Tennessee Justice Center at the end of 2013.
