Nashville Mayor Megan Barry has appointed Erik Cole as chief resilience officer in the new Office of Resilience.

The new position and office were created to lead citywide efforts to help Nashville prepare for, withstand and bounce back from catastrophic events including floods, tornadoes and fires and slow-moving disasters like unemployment, affordable housing and poverty and inequality.

39. Google's search engine directs voters to the ballot box -

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Google is pulling another lever on its influential search engine in an effort to boost voter turnout in November's U.S. presidential election.

Beginning Tuesday, Google will provide a summary box detailing state voting laws at the top of the search results whenever a user appears to be looking for that information. The breakdown will focus on the rules particular to the state where the search request originates unless a user asks for another location.

40. Happier Meal? McDonald's nixing some unpalatable ingredients -

NEW YORK (AP) — McDonald's, which is trying to shake its image for serving processed junk food, said Monday it's eliminating some unpalatable ingredients from its most popular menu items.

That includes making Chicken McNuggets and other items without artificial preservatives, and removing high-fructose corn syrup from its burger buns. The changes come as the world's biggest burger chain fights to win back customers after three straight years of declining guest counts at its established U.S. locations.

NASHVILLE (AP) — A newspaper reports that pop music star and actor Justin Timberlake has purchased about 126 acres of land in Williamson County.

According to The Tennessean (http://tnne.ws/1IqCqUr), Timberlake paid $4 million for the land on Old Highway 96 in the Leiper's Fork community through an entity with his Los Angeles-based certified public accountant as the trustee.
