WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is twisting reality on gun control and the environment.

Pressed over the weekend for his position on gun legislation, the president declined to answer whether he would support expanded background checks in the wake of deadly mass shootings and blamed Democrats in Congress for "doing nothing" on the issue. That's not true. The Democratic-controlled House in February approved legislation, which has since stalled because the Senate hasn't acted. Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he won't move on it or any gun legislation until Trump says what he wants.

73. Changes to who enforces state’s marijuana laws -

A law taking effect in January removes the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission from the Governor’s Task Force on Marijuana Eradication.

The push to remove the commission began in 2012, when WSMV-TV reported law enforcement discovered what they believed to be marijuana in the home of the commission’s director. Police never did a criminal investigation, and the director retired in 2012.

Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam has announced the appointments of 217 Tennesseans to 93 boards and commissions.

Nashville-based HealthTrustSM, a health care performance improvement company, has signed an agreement with Prime Healthcare of Ontario, California.

A shakeup in leadership is looming for the state Legislature, though it may portend more of a change in personalities than party strength.

In the House, longtime Rep. Craig Fitzhugh, the affable Democrat from Ripley in West Tennessee, is preparing for a 2018 gubernatorial run, a move that would knock him out of his House seat, at least temporarily, and the position as Democratic Caucus leader.

97. Catalano, Fisher join Frost Brown Todd -

Frost Brown Todd has hired James P. Catalano as member and Alexandria S. Fisher as senior associate to the firm’s Nashville office.

Catalano has been a litigator for nearly 20 years, representing individuals, municipalities and businesses, including Fortune 500 and multinational companies. He is a member of FBT’s Business Litigation Practice Group, where he handles a variety of business and commercial litigation and product liability cases.

Senate Majority Leader Mark Norris calls the governor’s $125 million supplemental budget a “strong foundation” for completing work on the IMPROVE Act.

Amendments presented Tuesday by Gov. Bill Haslam’s administration include $55 million for the transportation fund, which already is set to receive an infusion of funds in fiscal 2018 from fuel-tax increases and higher fees stemming from the governor’s transportation funding initiative.
