NASHVILLE (AP) — Vanderbilt announced a $300 million project Monday to improve football and basketball facilities and a new Vandy United Fund to raise money for athletics programs.

The Vandy United Fund already has $200 million committed with $100 million from the university along with $90 million from anonymous donors and another $10 million from John R. Ingram, a member of the Board of Trust and lead owner of MLS' Nashville team.

36. Statehouses could prove to be hothouses for virus infection -

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — As lawmakers around the U.S. convene this winter to deal with the crisis created by the pandemic, statehouses themselves could prove to be hothouses for infection.

Many legislatures will start the year meeting remotely, but some Republican-controlled statehouses, from Montana to Pennsylvania, plan to hold at least part of their sessions in person, without requiring masks. Public health officials say that move endangers the safety of other lawmakers, staffers, lobbyists, the public and the journalists responsible for holding politicians accountable.

NASHVILLE (AP) — More than a year before Anthony Warner detonated a bomb in downtown Nashville on Christmas, officers visited his home after his girlfriend told police he was building bombs in an RV trailer at his residence, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press. Homes continue to sell during the COVID-19 pandemic, with 302 moving into the “under contract” category, Realtracs reports. That’s an increase of almost 20% compared to the 253 that went under contract the week before.

For the four-week period beginning March 16 – the week before Mayor John Cooper’s Safer at Home order – residential sales in Davidson County increased each week. These sales topped out at 320 properties that went pending during the first full week after Gov. Bill Lee told Tennesseans to stay home.

First quarter sales in the Nashville area increased a whopping 9.1% compared to 2019, Greater Nashville Realtors sales data reveals.

As the Corona virus continues to spread across Davidson County, the number of pending home sales continue to rise.

For the week ending Monday, April 6, the week of Gov. Bill Lee’s executive order mandating that Tennesseans stay at home, 255 properties were placed under contract. That number compares to the 231 properties that went under contract the week following Mayor Cooper’s Safer at Home order.

JOHNSON CITY (AP) — Tennessee Republican U.S. Rep. Phil Roe announced Friday that he will retire at the end of the 116th Congress.

The 74-year-old called representing East Tennesseans in Congress for the past 11 years "the honor of my life" and said he always intended to serve five or six terms because he didn't want to make it a second career. He practiced medicine for more than 30 years before being elected.

Despite low inventory, the area reported a 16% increase in total transactions in October compared to October 2018, Greater Nashville Realtors sales data reveals. Unit sales hit 3,742 last month, an increase from 3,216 during the previous October.
