Reports: Hedge fund execs to pay billions in tax settlement -

NEW YORK (AP) — Executives at a New York hedge fund have agreed to pay as much as $7 billion to settle a long-running dispute with the U.S. tax authorities, according to reports Thursday.
The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times reported that insiders at Renaissance Technologies agreed to the deal that could be one of the largest in U.S. history.

Lizabeth Theiss is the new president of the Nashville Chapter of NAIOP, Commercial Real Estate Development Association, making history as the chapter’s first female president.
Theiss, who is vice president of business development and a member of the executive team at Crain Construction Inc., takes office in January and will serve a one-year term for the 450-member association. A NAIOP (National Association for Industrial and Office Parks) member since 2002, she previously served as president-elect, secretary and bus tour chair.

Her broker, David Harris, advised her to sell $400,000 worth of relatively safe municipal bonds, she says, and sink the proceeds into real estate and energy partnerships in hopes of earning more income. She had received the cash from a settlement after her husband died in an accident and needed money to raise her small son.

The Obama administration has given the go-ahead for a new cost-control strategy called "reference pricing." It lets insurers and employers put a dollar limit on what health plans pay for some expensive procedures, such as knee and hip replacements.
