Here are the top paid CEOs by state for 2018, as calculated by The Associated Press and Equilar, an executive data firm.

The survey considered only publicly traded companies with more than $1 billion in revenue that filed their proxy statements with federal regulators between Jan. 1 and April 30. Not every state has such a company headquartered there. The survey includes only CEOs who have been in place for at least two years, but it does not limit the survey to companies in the S&P 500, as the AP's general compensation study does. That's why it includes such CEOs as Tesla's Elon Musk.

Neuroscientist Lisa Monteggia, Ph.D., has been named the Barlow Family Director of the Vanderbilt Brain Institute at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.

Monteggia was identified as the top candidate to lead the Vanderbilt Brain Institute following an extensive national search. She previously served as research assistant professor at UT Southwestern Medical School beginning in 2000 before joining the faculty as assistant professor in 2002.

50. Overtime pay rising as Nashville police work event security -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Overtime pay for police in Tennessee's capital city has risen roughly $3 million in recent years and nearly all of the increase can be attributed to on-duty officers working security at special events often run by private organizers, including games of the NFL's Tennessee Titans and minor league baseball's Nashville Sounds.

83. Guard promotes attorney to brigadier general -

Kurt Winstead, a founding member of the Nashville law firm Rudy Winstead Turner, PLLC, has been promoted to brigadier general in the Tennessee National Guard.

Winstead began his career with the Tennessee National Guard in 1990 when he was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Judge Advocate General Corp. His first assignment was as the judge advocate general for the 194th Engineer Brigade, now headquartered in Jackson. Throughout his more than 26 years of service, Winstead has served in numerous assignments culminating as the senior staff judge advocate at the Joint Force Headquarters in Nashville.
