NEW YORK (AP) — The NFL has banned any on-field pyrotechnics and "flame effects" at any league or team events, including games, in the wake of an incident at last Sunday's game at Nissan Stadium.

A league spokesman said the matter was being reviewed and the prohibition would last at least through the review.

LORMAN, Miss. (AP) — Alcorn State University says it will officially retire the No. 9 jersey worn by former quarterback Steve McNair later this season.

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Colts keep changing quarterbacks, not that it matters when they play the Titans.

Jacoby Brissett became the latest Indianapolis quarterback to top Tennessee, throwing a 4-yard touchdown pass to T.Y. Hilton with 4:38 left to lead the Colts to a 19-17 victory Sunday in the Titans' home opener.

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans are honoring their past by retiring the Nos. 27 and 9 of Eddie George and the late Steve McNair.

7. Titans remember past champs, face old nemesis -

The Titans stunned the Cleveland Browns in the season opener and now return home on a day that will be special even before the ball is kicked off against the visiting Indianapolis Colts.

Douglas Hanto M.D., Ph.D., professor of surgery and associate director of the Vanderbilt Transplant Center, has been named the Center’s new director.

OK, admit it. There were a bunch of you scratching your heads after the Titans drafted Taylor Lewan with the 11th overall pick in the NFL Draft.

There are those who have questioned the coaching of Mike Munchak and his staff, others would lay the blame at the feet of players who have underperformed and still others would point to the front office’s inability to provide stability in the draft and free agency.

NASHVILLE (AP) - When it comes to country music, George Jones was The Voice.

Other great singers have come and gone, but this fact remained inviolate until Jones passed away Friday at 81 in a Nashville hospital after a year of ill health.

NASHVILLE (AP) - George Strait is getting ready to park his tour bus.

The enduring country music superstar announced Wednesday during a news conference at the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum that he will embark on his final tour early next year. Strait will play 21 dates in 2013, then 20 more in 2014 on The Cowboy Rides Away tour. He plans to continue recording music and making occasional live appearances after that, but his road warrior days will soon be over.

NASHVILLE (AP) - It may be impossible to overstate the importance of bluegrass legend Earl Scruggs to American music.
