1. Week 8 predictions -

Titans 24, Bucs 23: It’s hard to have faith in the Titans after one win, but the Bucs aren’t lighting the league on fire, either. The Titans have to get after Jameis Winston and can’t let WR Mike Evans – 27 catches, 464 yards, four touchdowns – beat them down the field.

Chargers 17, Titans 3: The Chargers haven’t exactly set the league afire of late, but they’re in great shape compared to the disaster the Titans have become on offense.

6. Week 4 predictions -

Falcons 27, Titans 17: The Titans have won when an underdog and lost as a favorite thus far in all three games this year. Unless the defense steps up and forces a couple of turnovers, or Derrick Henry runs like he did in some of the SEC Championship Games he played in in Atlanta, it could be another tough day for the Titans.

7. What’s wrong with Titans' offense? NFL evaluators weigh in -

Three weeks into the NFL season, the question around the Tennessee Titans has shifted from “Will Marcus Mariota earn a contract extension?” to “Will he and the offense ever find any sort of rhythm in the passing game?”

8. Week 3 predictions -

Titans 21, Jaguars 20: Picking the Titans to win is like putting a game in the loss column, but given the Jaguars are playing backup Gardner Minshew at quarterback, the Titans should be favored to win on a short week, even on the road. But it will take a better effort than what they gave against the Colts.

9. Nothing but the truth -

An ‘otherworldly’ experience on an otherwise perfectly normal night 15 years ago changed Sheila Wysocki’s life.

She calls the 2004 event at her Nashville home a “God nod” (one of Wysocki’s pet phrases) and tells how she was in bed doing Bible-study “homework,” not at all thinking about the murder of her college roommate two decades earlier.

Nothing against Dolly and Elvis, but you can have Dollywood and Graceland. I’ll take paths less trampled, within a day’s round-trip drive of Nashville, Knoxville or Chattanooga.

Rock House

Andrew Jackson and Sam Houston hitched their horses, slept on a dirt floor and (maybe) enjoyed some possum suppers.

Standing on the open terrace outside the location of Roger Miller’s private suite next to The Roof, the Vegas-styled club atop his King of the Road Motor Inn, I look back in time and, dang me, I both wonder where it all went and celebrate that I can remember.

29. Seivers in College Football Hall of Fame? Yeah, sure, why not? -

Don’t look for any campaign propaganda to be mailed out. There won’t be any personal stumping. Heck, Larry Seivers even refused to fluff up his own bio. If the former University of Tennessee two-time All-America wide receiver finds his way into the College Football Hall of Fame, it will happen because of the numbers and the memories that made him one of the game’s best in the 1970s.

39. Year 3: Time for Mariota to become a star -

If Year 1 was a good start and Year 2 was another step in the right direction, what should we expect of Marcus Mariota in Year 3?

How about a playoff berth for the team he quarterbacks.

Granted, there are many other factors in play that will determine the success, failure or return to mediocrity of the Titans in 2017. Has the defensive backfield been successfully retooled? Can the offensive line remain one of the best in the NFL? Will the additions at wide receiver pay the expected dividends?

A volley of gunshots slightly interrupts my calm as I stand on one of my favorite knolls in the Nashville National Cemetery.

Tennessee is lagging much of the nation when it comes to the ability to remove scoundrels from public office.

Anyone considering selling a home in the near future should be aware of some new trends and take heed as things pertain to inspections.

Have the Tennessee Titans picked a bad year to be bad? It depends upon how you view things.

Having the No. 1 overall pick in April certainly can’t hurt the Titans, despite the fact that the 2016 draft lacks that certain flair and doesn’t appear to have a can’t-miss talent that would make Tennessee’s choice on April 28 obvious.

74. Examining our expectations after shootings -

I’d like to say my very first emotion after the July 16 Chattanooga mass murder was either horror or sadness, but that would be a lie. Americans saw 204 multiple-victim shootings in the first 204 days of 2015. By the time these words appear in print, I’ve no doubt the count will be higher.
