WASHINGTON (AP) — It's going to be a "Beautiful Day" for the band U2 and four other artists when they receive this year's Kennedy Center Honors in December.
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts announced Thursday that the Irish rock band along with actor George Clooney, singers Gladys Knight and Amy Grant and composer Tania León are being honored this year.

NEW YORK (AP) — People with hearing loss have a new ally in their efforts to navigate the world: Captions that aren't limited to their television screens and streaming services.
The COVID pandemic disrupted daily life for people everywhere, but many of those with hearing loss took the resulting isolation especially hard. "When everyone wears a mask they are completely unintelligible to me," said Pat Olken of Sharon, Massachusetts, whose hearing aids were insufficient. (A new cochlear implant has helped her a lot.)

ANAHEIM, California (AP) — The new president of the Southern Baptist Convention said Wednesday he will accelerate sex abuse reforms in the nation's largest Protestant denomination.
Texas pastor Bart Barber's first priority: to assemble a panel of people -- Southern Baptist leaders and experts -- to shepherd this work for the whole convention as mandated by thousands of representatives from local SBC churches.

Nancy VanReece is one of those people. She moved to Nashville in 1986 to start her own radio promotion and marketing agency out of college in Texas. Soon she was in publishing, started a small label and sold it to her partners after two years. She then joined the performing rights organization BMI, where she ended up working for 10 years in business and health care licensing.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Supreme Court justices seemed to have little doubt Tuesday that Boston was wrong to refuse to fly a banner described as a Christian flag outside City Hall.
Arguments at the high court appeared to unite justices on the left and right in favor of Harold Shurtleff, a conservative activist. Shurtleff wanted to fly a white banner with a red cross on a blue background in the upper left corner, called the Christian flag.
