1. Lewan out vs. Chiefs, Jones questionable -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan will not play against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday as he recovers from a concussion.

The Titans also declared Friday that wide receiver Chester Rogers, who ranks second in the NFL averaging 13.3 yards per punt return, and linebacker Monty Rice won't play.

2. Knack for finishing games not showing up early for Titans -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans have a great knack for finishing games. Moving the ball after the opening kickoff is their big problem.

The Titans have scored only 20 points in the first quarter all season and have been shut out in two games. Worse, they've scored only once on an opening drive, settling for a field goal against the Jets, with a trio of three-and-outs.

3. Titans stop Allen on 4th down, hang on to beat Bills 34-31 -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Derrick Henry showed once again how important he is to the Tennessee Titans.

This time, he had help from the Tennessee defense.

Henry scored his third touchdown with 3:05 left, and the Titans stopped Josh Allen on a fourth-down quarterback sneak in the final seconds to beat Buffalo 34-31 on Monday night, snapping the Bills' four-game winning streak.

4. Kraken post 1st NHL victory, spoiling Preds' opener 4-3 -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Seattle Kraken wound up having to wait longer to play their first regular-season game on home ice than they did their first victory.

Brandon Tanev scored his second goal into an empty net with 1:21 left, and the Kraken beat the Nashville Predators 4-3 Thursday night for the first victory in the expansion franchise's second game.

5. Titans' Julio Jones back at practice after missing 2 games -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Titans wide receiver Julio Jones returned to practice Wednesday after missing the past two games with an injured hamstring.

Both Jones and A.J. Brown practiced during the portion open to reporters, and Jones ran well during the individual drills. Brown returned last week in a 37-19 win over the Jaguars from his own injured hamstring, which he hurt early in a 25-16 win over Indianapolis on Sept. 26.

6. Tannehill throws 3 TDs as Titans hold off Colts 25-16 -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans know it's almost impossible to win a game turning the ball over three times.

They found a way to overcome their mistakes for a big win against a team they rarely beat, especially in Nashville.

7. Titans eager to respond after offense 'got hit in the mouth' -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans are trying to get back to what they do on offense after a stumbling performance in their season opener, and Ryan Tannehill says that means playing up to their own standards.

8. No time for excuses or pouting for Titans after ugly loss -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Tennessee is about to find out if the Titans are who they thought they were coming into this season.

The Titans came into this season with high expectations as the defending AFC South champs. That swagger deflated quickly as the Arizona Cardinals scored the first 17 points in romping all over them in a 38-13 flop Sunday that had fans booing before halftime and leaving before the fourth quarter.

9. NFL roster spots are for the great or versatile -

I first heard the term, “the more you can do,” from the late Floyd Reese, former Titans general manager, when I first started covering the Titans and the NFL.

Now a quarter century later, you’ll still hear that phrase spring forth from the Titans administration, including current general manager Jon Robinson and head coach Mike Vrabel. It came into play again last week when roster cuts were finalized.

10. Good players face reality of roster limits, especially at wide receiver -

One thing about the Tennessee Titans that might be different this year than any other in a long time is just how steep the competition has been for roster spots.

By the time you read this, cuts will have been made, the original 53-man roster will have been chosen and many guys who made sizable contributions in camp and the preseason will be gone.

11. Titans swap out trio on practice squad adding NFL experience -

NASHVILLE — (AP) — The Tennessee Titans have added a trio of players with NFL experience to their practice squad, signing wide receiver Chester Rogers and a pair of defensive backs in Breon Borders and Greg Mabin.

12. Blocked field goal helps Titans topple Colts 31-17 -

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Dane Cruikshank and Tye Smith teamed up to make a game-changing play Sunday.

It could turn out to be a season-turning one for Tennessee, too.

Cruikshank raced through an inside gap to block a potential tiebreaking field goal late in the fourth quarter and Smith returned it 63 yards for the go-ahead touchdown to send the Titans past Indianapolis 31-17.

It's happened a lot to the Colts lately.
