7. Race, religion scholar among 3 joining VU faculty -

Michael Eric Dyson, a globally renowned scholar of race, religion and contemporary culture, will join Vanderbilt as Centennial Chair and University Distinguished Professor of African American and Diaspora Studies in the College of Arts and Science and University Distinguished Professor of Ethics and Society in the Divinity School on Jan. 1.

8. District Attorneys General Conference names deputy director -

Former Davidson County prosecutor Zoe K. Sams has been named deputy director of the Tennessee District Attorneys General Conference. Most recently, she served as the director of legislation and Safe Baby Court statewide coordinator for the Tennessee Department of Children Services.

9. McNally honored with Bar’s Norman Award -

Patrick T. McNally has been named the recipient of the Nashville Bar Association’s 2020 Jack Norman, Sr. Award, given annually to criminal law practitioners – including specifically defense attorneys, prosecuting attorneys and judges of courts with criminal jurisdiction – who practice before or serve as judges of courts exercising criminal jurisdiction located in the Metropolitan Nashville area.

10. Yarbrough honored by Nashville Bar Association -

Edward M. Yarbrough, a member and attorney at Bone McAllester Norton, has been awarded the Nashville Bar Foundation’s David Rutherford Award for 2020.

Among tax-free items being sold tax-free during that period are clothing for $100 or less, school and school art supplies for $100 or less and computers for $1,500 or less, including CPUs and other bundled components such as speakers, monitor, keyboard, mouse, cables and basic software.

26. Fisk receives $1M gift from board member -

Fisk University has announced a $1 million gift from Robert W. Norton, a retired Pfizer executive and member of the Fisk University Board of Trustees, and his wife Janice. The Norton’s gift will be used to provide scholarships for deserving students.

27. FBI leaves US targets of Russian hackers in the dark -

WASHINGTON (AP) — The FBI failed to notify scores of U.S. officials that Russian hackers were trying to break into their personal Gmail accounts despite having evidence for at least a year that the targets were in the Kremlin's crosshairs, The Associated Press has found.

The Tennessee Bar Association has named Nashville lawyer Joycelyn Stevenson as its new executive director.

A shareholder with Littler Mendelson PC with a practice focused on labor and employment law, Stevenson has been a leader in the Tennessee legal community, serving as president of both the Nashville Bar Association and the Lawyers’ Association for Women - Marion Griffin Chapter. She is the first African-American woman to lead both organizations and will be the first African-American woman to direct the TBA.
