Congress’ month-long fight over the debt ceiling did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of Nashville-area homebuyers. Quite the opposite.
Home sales were up in the Nashville region in July for the first time in a year, and that fragile recovery is not expected to be set back dramatically by this week’s fallout from the debt-ceiling battle. Standard & Poor’s downgraded the credit worthiness of the United States from AAA to AA+. S&P also downgraded Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the federally chartered enterprises that guarantee mortgages, sparking a Wall Street selloff early in the week and setting off fears that mortgage rates would rise.

Each year, in early May, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) organizes and implements Realtor Day on the Hill in Washington, D.C., during its mid-year meetings. That’s right, the mid-year meetings are in early May. But it is Washington, and they are Realtors, so they never let a calendar get in the way of a good event.

Daily, Hagan Stone rushes from meeting to meeting, fields phone calls, managing to make time for church and family, and is, concurrently, one of the most successful realtors in Nashville.
The Greater Nashville Association of Realtors (GNAR), the region’s organization of record for the real estate industry, just named Stone 2010 Realtor of the Year. He also serves on the Belmont University Alumni Board, helped develop the curriculum for Youth Leadership Brentwood and teaches a Sunday school class. Fortuitously, for Stone, meaningful involvement in his community does appear to dovetail with his success
