UT supply chain, nuclear engineering make Top 5

Multiple graduate programs at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, have been recognized in the U.S. News and World Report Best Graduate School rankings for 2023.

Graduate programs in supply chain and nuclear engineering continue to be among the very best in the country – both ranking in the top five among public institutions.

The supply chain management graduate programs in UT’s Haslam College of Business are ranked third among public institutions and fourth nationally. This marks the eighth consecutive year that UT’s supply chain graduate programs have placed in the top 10. The full-time MBA program ranks 27th among public universities.

The nuclear engineering program in UT’s Tickle College of Engineering rose one spot to fifth among public institutions and sixth overall nationally. The college remains in a solid position, ranking 35th among public institutions.

Of the 12 engineering disciplines measured in the rankings, 10 UT programs are in the top half of public institutions in their respective field.

Several colleges continue to perform at a high level and are ranked in the top 50 among public institutions. The College of Law is ranked 29th, its 10th. The College of Education, Health and Human Sciences, which is experiencing a record number of applicants, is ranked 43rd. The College of Nursing’s doctoral program is ranked 39th.

For the first time in four years, U.S. News published new data on academic reputation rankings for social work, and UT’s College of Social Work ranked 30th among public universities.

Senior care company taps Ripley PR

Caring Senior Service, a private-duty, nonmedical home care company based in San Antonio, Texas, has selected franchise specialist agency Ripley PR, based in Maryville, as its public relations provider and agency of record.

Renodis is now a minority partner at RCN

Knoxville-based RCN Technologies has completed its first investment round by announcing a new minority partner in Renodis, a telecom and mobility management company based in Minneapolis.

The investment is part of RCN’s ongoing strategy to capitalize on the rapidly expanding 5G connectivity for business market.

RCN delivers solutions for companies and public sector organizations seeking to leverage innovative cellular technologies, including POTS-over-LTE replacement, wireless pop-up networks, wireless edge 4G and 5G solutions and more to connect sites, vehicles, mobile workforces and IoT devices.

After a thorough process to find the right strategic and financing partner to support its projected near-term growth, RCN co-owners Jennifer and Geoff Yearack selected Renodis as their first outside financing partner in 32 years of successful entrepreneurship.

Old Smoky Distillery garners awards

Ole Smoky Distillery, based in Gatlinburg, has been nationally recognized with four prestigious 2022 Growth Brand Awards from the Beverage Information Group.

The company earned two Rising Star Awards, for Ole Smoky Canned Cocktails and Ole Smoky Peanut Butter Whiskey and two Fast Track Awards, for Ole Smoky Whiskey and Ole Smoky Moonshine.

The Beverage Information Group collects beverage alcohol data, does reporting and analysis, and publishes BeverageDynamics, Cheers, StateWays, Beverage Wholesaler.

The Growth Brands Awards have recognized successful beverage alcohol brands since 1997.

As the largest craft distiller in the U.S. and home of the most visited distillery in the world, Ole Smoky sold over 1 million 9L cases in 2021 and holds the No. 1 share position in moonshine according to NielsenIQ.

Also, according to NielsenIQ, for the 52 weeks ending 1/1/22, Ole Smoky Distillery was one of the fastest growing spirits companies in the American Whiskey category with sales up +24% versus the year ago period, on top of very strong growth in 2020.

Trust Company lauded for retirement services

The Trust Company of Tennessee again has earned national recognition for its retirement plan services by the National Association of Plan Advisors.

The list of the Top Defined Contribution Advisor Multi-Office Firms includes 31 U.S. companies that have more than one office and exceed $1 billion in defined contribution assets under advisement as of Dec. 31.

Defined contribution retirement plans are ones to which an employee, employer or both make regular contributions.

This is the fourth year that NAPA has released the Top DC Advisor Multi-Office Firms list, and The Trust Company of Tennessee has been the only Tennessee firm on the list each time. View the list

KUL receives $27,000 Black & Decker grant

The Knoxville Urban League has earned $27,000 from Stanley Black & Decker’s first “Empower Makers” Global Impact Challenge.

Initiated in 2021, the Global Impact Challenge grant program will award up to $25 million in grant funding over the next five years to nonprofits supporting trade workforce development initiatives in the construction and manufacturing sectors.

“This timely and impactful grant from Stanley Black & Decker will help us establish our new Level UP Skills Pre-Apprenticeship Program,” says Phyllis Y. Nichols, president and CEO of the Knoxville Area Urban League. “Through the initiative, residents will learn a trade in construction while earning money and working full time – it’s a win-win for our neighbors and our community.”

The Knoxville Area Urban League was one of 86 organizations selected that will help skill and reskill about 180,000 makers throughout 2022.

South College makes Military Friendly Top 10

South College, based in Knoxville, again has earned the Military Friendly School designation and is among the Top 10 in the country for 2022-2023.

South College, which first earned the Military Friendly School designation in 2016, has been a longtime advocate for veterans and supporter of the U.S. military.

The South College Military Grant program provides tuition benefits to veterans and spouses of veterans with honorable discharge status; active-duty military and spouses; and dependents who are eligible for U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs educational benefits.

ACC recognizes North Knoxville Medical

Tennova Healthcare–North Knoxville Medical Center was recently recognized by The American College of Cardiology with re-accreditation as a Chest Pain Center with the Primary PCI designation.

This demonstrates continued expertise and commitment in treating patients with chest pain. This accreditation is based on a rigorous on-site assessment of the staff’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack. New location for Scooter’s Coffee

Scooter’s Coffee has opened another Knoxville location at 8004 Kingston Pike owned by Emily Harris and Cole Harris.

The store offers specialty coffee and baked-from-scratch pastries.

Scooter’s Coffee is a drive-thru franchise that has been serving coffee for more than 20 years and has over 400 locations in 23 states across the nation. With commitments to build new stores in 30 states, the company plans to open many additional locations in 2022.
